JAMPACT
The beginning of it all…
JAMPACT was started in 1997 and held its official launched on September 24, 1998 at the Consulate General of Jamaica,NYC. The organization was created by a group of students and professionals in NY. The founding members are myself Hope Greaves-Johnson, Stefan Wright, Cecile Thaxter, Vigla Clarke, Chulley Bogle and Carol Archer. The group quickly grew and attracted several talented members who spent the early months creating bylaws and registering a 5013c.
The idea of JAMPACT was greatly influenced by the “Jamaica 2010” a Think Tank in the UK founded by Julian Robinson, Devon Johnson and Seymour Stewart. Our group in NY saw the benefit of having a group to create a Network for those of us studying /working in the US. However, our Vision was to create a group that would not only benefit ourselves but the diaspora in the US and back home in Jamaica. Our focus was 1) Professional Development/Networking 2) Childhood Education 3) Think Tank.
I was appointed as the first president by the newly form board of directors.
Regards,
Hope Greaves-Johnson
