Hon. Douglas Orane to Deliver 8th Annual

CIN Lecture at New York's Schomburg Center on Friday, October 19, 2012

The Hon. Douglas Orane, Chairman of GraceKennedy Limited

has been selected to deliver the eighth annual lecture, presented each year by the Caribbean International Network, (CIN) and his topic will be "The Key to Prosperity in Jamaica".


Over the years the, CIN Caribbean Lecture Series has presented individuals of unique accomplishment and uncommon commitment to the political, economic and social advancement of the Caribbean region. Distinguished past presenters are two former Prime Ministers, P.J. Patterson and Edward Seaga, UCLA Professor Robert Hill, the late UWI distinguished Professor, Rex Nettleford, Lowell Horthorne, CEO of Golden Krust Restaurants, R.G. Thwaites, Minister of Education in Jamaica and Greg Christie, Contractor General of Jamaica.


The Lecture will be held at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, America's leading repositories of  books and artifacts on the global African experience, located in Harlem, New York on Friday, October 19, 2012.  


Mr. Orane possesses an active social conscience and leverages his position as a leader of industry to highlight the possibilities in Jamaican society. As President of the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica (for two terms between 1992 and 1994) he gained national attention for his incisive, rational and pragmatic views on topical issues, particularly on electoral reform.


According to Stephen Hill, CEO of the CIN, "Over the course of the lecture series we have invited top leaders offering fresh perspectives on critical Caribbean topics. "This year CIN is extremely proud to have the Hon. Douglas Orane as our presenter at the eighth annual lecture. He was selected because of his stellar performance at a business leader, humanitarian and spokesperson for Caribbean development."  


For the past 17 years the CIN has been the only regularly scheduled television service for the Caribbean community in the New York area. Since its inception, network has provided a full menu of news, sports, drama and music programs, created exclusively for the rapidly growing and youthful Caribbean population.

Prepaid calls
Many people rely on prepaid phone cards to reach family in other countries. That's why Consumer Reports decided to investigate the cards-and find out if people were getting their money's worth.

Consumer Reports sent secret shoppers to buy more than 130 cards in seven communities in New York State. We made more than 100 calls with the cards as part of our investigation. Click here to read more.
