Holiday Message from JAMPACT's President Dale Todd
It was about 20 years ago that I learned of a statement made by one of our former colonial "massa or busha". The man, I was told, at the time of Jamaica's Independence, stated that it will be 50-75 years before Jamaica begins to develop as a stable and prosperous nation. To a ten year-old boy that sounded like madness. "50 years!!" I thought, "naw sah, Jamaica already sweetah dan anyweh else and nu weh nu betta dan yard." Continue Reading.

Annual Christmas Treat for Adopted Basic Schools

The Annual Christmas Treat for our adopted basic schools in Jamaica will be held on December 14, 10:00 AM, at the Olympic Garden Civic Centre, 119B Olympic Way, in Kingston, Jamaica.  The schools will be having a combined treat for approximately 200 students from all four basic schools; Cole's, Crescent Road, Maxfield Park Home, and St. Steven's. This is a culmination of the combined efforts of JAMPACT's education committee, along with the tireless efforts of Principal Claudia Cowan of St. Steven's, and volunteer liaisons on the ground such as Dr. Rebecca Tortello, Phyllis Anderson, and Stefan Wright. They have collaborated and solicited donations from local businesses such as Burger KingŪ who will be providing food and beverages for the treat. Additionally, there were personal donations from friends of JAMPACT. Gifts of toys will also be distributed to the students compliments of JAMPACT. Continue Reading.

This holiday season, help make the New Year brighter for a child at one of our adopted schools through Tuition Sponsorhip. Continue Reading.

"The Diaspora Gives Back: How International Funding Led to the Restoration & Re-Opening of Liberty Hall; The Legacy of  Marcus Mosiah Garvey"

Join us at the January 26 General Body Meeting for the Kick-Off to the 2011 Speaker Series with this spirited and informative discussion on the restoration and re-opening of the Caribbean's first multi-media museum and the only museum in the world dedicated to the life and work of one of Jamaica's National Heroes, Marcus Mosiah Garvey. The discussion will also explore the impact of the museum on the Jamaican society as a whole and downtown Kingston's inner-city youth in particular. The discussion will be led by the Museum's Director/Curator, Donna McFarlane (PhD Candidate, University of Leicester, UK). Click here to view her biography.
