Education Committee

Early childhood and teacher training are two crucial issues facing Jamaica's education system. Hence, JAMPACT's Education Committee has gravitated towards these two areas. Our goals are twofold: to provide financial support and maintain strong ties with institutions and persons representative of these two areas. This includes, among other things, promoting literacy, adopting basic schools in Jamaica and building a scholarship fund for students at various teachers colleges.

In 1999, JAMPACT, in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, identified several basic schools for the organization to support on an ongoing basis in Jamaica:

  • St. Steven's Basic School
  • Crescent Road Basic School
  • Mt. Olive Basic School
  • Coles Basic School

Each year since the program's inception, JAMPACT has made substantials donations of school supplies, teaching aids and funds for needed facility upgrades at these schools. In the first year, the organization raised funds of over US $2,000 for our initial gift and our first contribution was made, in the form of books and manuscripts.
